Day 1

Upon your arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met by a member of the Island-Safari.com team and handed your travel documents. You will then take the connecting flight from Johannesburg to Livingstone in Zambia with BA/Comair, departing at 10h4.

On arrival at Livingstone Airport, you will be met by a representative of Sindabezi Island Lodge and transferred to the lodge by road and boat.

Sindabezi Island is a private island paradise nestled in the waters of the Zambezi, upstream of the Victoria Falls. Here, in a haven of natural tranquility, you will truly experience the sights and sounds of the African bush.  From Sindabezi, the flood plain of the mighty Zambezi and the views of the wildlife in the nearby National Park will capture your soul.

Sindabezi Island sleeps only ten people, in five open fronted thatched chalets dotted around the shores of the island. The island is very rustic in style with no electricity, wood fires and hot bucket showers on demand. The unique design of the chalets allows you to encounter up close all the sights and sounds of the river and the creatures that live in and around it, including regular visits from Horace, the resident hippo. At night, you will fall asleep in the glow of a hurricane lamp and be awoken by magnificent sunrises over the flood plains of the river.

Day 2

Activities include sunset and sunrise boat trips, fishing, bird and gorge walks, canoeing, a visit to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, visits to Livingstone markets and the local chief’s village, game drives in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park.

Your stay at Sindabezi is fully inclusive of all meals, drinks and activities.

Day 3

After breakfast you will be met at reception and transferred by private air conditioned vehicle across the Botswana border to Kasane airport, a journey of around 80 minutes. Here you will be met by your pilot, who will fly you in a light aircraft to Mapula Lodge (approx. 1 hour). This is an excellent experience in itself, affording superb aerial views over the Delta and its wildlife.

Mapula Lodge consists of 10 comfortable luxurious chalets on raised decks, each with an en-suite bathroom, an outside shower and a private balcony. Traditional design and use of local materials provide unique detail in a luxurious surrounding.

The traditional design and use of natural log creates a unique, large central lounge with open balcony encompassing a small library, open-air bar and curio shop. There is also a swimming pool for you to enjoy, and to cool off on a hot day.

Day 4

Mapula Lodge is a situated in the remote north eastern area of the Okavango Delta. The shallow channels and floodplains invite tranquil Mokoro trips in the clear Delta waters, while the larger islands are home to a wide variety of game, viewed from the vantage of open 4x4 game drive vehicles.

Your stay at Mapula Lodge includes full board, local beverages and safari activities.

Day 5

After breakfast you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your short flight (25 minutes) to Maun. From here you will be transferred by road to Meno a Kwena (1.5 hours).

The tented safari camp is an experience in itself. All the tents are pitched on a cliff overlooking the Boteti River, which was dry for almost 15 years but began to flow again in 2008! The rustic, but stylish camp has been created from a mixture of authentic canvas safari equipment with a traditional rural African touch.

Southern Africa’s largest remaining zebra and wildebeest herds, dependant on regular drinking water, migrate within the Makgadikgadi Pan and Nxai Pans ecosystem. There are numerous desert-adapted animals and birds that move through the area in search of grazing and browse. This very diverse system, contrasts between riverine and open saltpan habitats with varying woodland and scrubby vegetation.

Wildlife viewing by 4x4 safari vehicle into the parks and reserve are dependent on where the seasonal wildlife is concentrated for water and food, determined by rainfall. There is actually no need to leave the camp during the dry season as most of the wildlife in the area will drink from the waterholes right at camp. This is a perfect opportunity for guests to take a break from game drives and to sit quietly and watch the wildlife from the comfort of camp, and their very popular hide.

The lodge is situated on stilts on the crystal clear waters of the warm Indian Ocean. This eco-paradise is home to flocks of flamingos, tropical fish and the very rare dugong. The sunsets at Flamingo Bay are nothing less than breathtaking.
