Backpacker Adventure Itinerary Priced from: 14 nights US$ 5 105 per person sharing 8 nights Safari ONLY: US$ 3 595 per person sharing Day 1 Upon your arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met by a member of the Island-Safari.com team and handed your travel documents. You will then take a scheduled flight from Johannesburg to Livingstone in Zambia. On arrival at Livingstone Airport, you will be met by a representative of Chundukwa River Lodge and transferred to the lodge.
Situated about 25km upstream from Victoria Falls on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, Chundukwa has created unique open-fronted chalets which blend naturally with the Waterberry trees that adorn the riverbanks. Each chalet is complete with a private bathroom and breathtaking views of the Zambezi River, Chundu Island opposite, and the Zambezi National park across the River. The Lodge is in a game area and sightings of hippo, elephant and other game are a common occurrence.
Chundukwa River Lodge accommodates just 10 people in 5 chalets overlooking the Zambezi.
Your stay at Chundukwa is fully inclusive of all meals and drinks, and also includes a sun downer boat cruise and tour of Victoria Falls (including entrance fee). Day 2 Time for some fun! Enjoy any of the following activities, which can be pre-booked with Island-Safari or booked directly through Chundukwa River Lodge: White Water Rafting (Half or Full day), Elephant Back Safari, Full Day Canoeing, Half Day High Wire Adventure, 15 Minute Helicopter Flight, Jet Boat Safari, Horse Riding Safari, Night Drive, Walking Safari or Lion Encounter. Day 3 After two exhilarating days at Victoria Falls, you will be collected at reception and transferred by car and ferry to Kasane Airport in Botswana (approx. 2 hours), where you will be met by your pilot and flown in a light aircraft to Moremi Crossing, a one hour flight that affords awesome views of the Okavango Delta below (have your camera ready!)
At Moremi Crossing you will be accommodated a vintage en-suite safari tents with its own private wooden deck and magical views over the Boro River on to Chief's Island. The Meru tents are large and airy with en suite bathrooms consisting of shower and toilet.
After lunch (at Moremi Crossing all your meals, teas and coffees and local drinks are included in your tour), you will go out with your guide for either a mokoro excursion or a walking safari. Days 4 and 5 For the more adventurous we offer wilderness camping. This involves packing up a mokoro with camping equipment and going with a professional guide out into the Delta for a night or two. It's a magical experience and a good way to get close to the birds and animals that the Delta has to offer. This depends always on the water levels at the time.
At Wilderness Camping, clients may have to participate in cooking for themselves with the help of their guide. We do supply all equipments and food. There are no bathrooms so clients use the bush as their bathrooms.
An early morning wake-up, and after some coffee, an early morning walk in the Moremi Game Reserve, returning after about three hours for a hearty breakfast. During the heat of the day you can relax, and then after lunch another excursion by mokoro and on foot. Dining by the light of the campfire under the canopy of the 'African Sky' completes your day. If you are particularly energetic, you can go out on a longer walking safari, taking a picnic breakfast or lunch with you.
Walking safaris are truly one of the best ways to go out on safari, enabling you to be 'at one' with the environment, and obtain stunning views of both the wildlife and birdlife of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will be happy to track and stalk particular animals that you are interested in seeing. Day 6 Another early morning safari, then return to Moremi Crossing for lunch, and a rest at the cooling pool before going out again for a mokoro excursion. Days 7 and 8 After your four night stay at Moremi Crossing, you will take a light aircraft flight to Maun. From here you will be transferred by road to Meno a Kwena (1.5 hours).
The tented safari camp is an experience in itself. All the tents are pitched on a cliff overlooking the Boteti River - which was dry for almost 15 years, but began to flow again in 2008! This rustic, but stylish camp has been created from a mixture of authentic canvas safari equipment with a traditional rural African touch.
Southern Africa's largest remaining zebra and wildebeest herds, dependant on regular drinking water, migrate within the Makgadikgadi Pan and Nxai Pans ecosystem. There are numerous desert-adapted animals and birds that move through the area in search of grazing and browse. This very diverse system, contrasts between riverine and open saltpan habitats with varying woodland and scrubby vegetation.
Wildlife viewing by 4x4 safari vehicle into the parks and reserve are dependent on where the seasonal wildlife is concentrated for water and food, determined by rainfall. There is actually no need to leave the camp during the dry season as most of the wildlife in the area will drink from the waterholes right at camp. This is a perfect opportunity for guests to take a break from game drives and to sit quietly and watch the wildlife from the comfort of camp, and their very popular hide. Day 9 After breakfast you will return to Maun Airport in time for your scheduled Air Botswana, departing Maun at 15h00 and arriving in Johannesburg at 16h40.
You will spend the night in Johannesburg at the Safari Club, which is conveniently situated alongside the airport. Dinner will be at your own expense tonight, but a delicious breakfast buffet is included in your stay. Day 10 After breakfast you will be shuttled back to Johannesburg Airport (10 minutes) for your flight to Vilanculos in Mozambique (approx. 2 hours).
You will be met at Vilanculos Airport and transferred to Casa Rex, an intimate hotel with only 13 rooms.
Reminiscent of a gracious era, its buildings encompassed in lush gardens, Casa Rex overlooks the southern-central section of Vilanculos Bay.
